What is all the fuss about?
We are using technically advanced recyclable fabrics exclusive to Finisterre. They are also guaranteed for life.
Our products are designed in Cornwall and manufactured in some of the most ethically advanced factories on the planet. This year, we consider it to be one of the greenest product lines in the industry.
Finisterre is a UK born, surf inspired brand with a reach far beyond its original market.
Going against conventional thinking and after a period of intense testing, we have done away with membranes for the 07/08 collection. Warmer, drier, tougher and more comfortable, our new biomimetic waterproofs say goodbye to solvents, lamination, heat sealing and clogged membrane pores. Bearing the standard in sustainable design and leading the way in the science of biomimicry, the 07/08 Storm Track and Humboldt have been created around a fabric system inspired by animal fur. Favoured by members of the Special Forces and British Mountain Rescue Teams, its outstanding breathability, waterproofness and comfort are a revelation in performance. All components are easily replaceable and all textiles are easily recyclable. The manufacturing facility is based in Colombia where it is run by nuns, as part of a 15 year old social regeneration program.
Following on from these garments is the Etobicoke - a super warm garment utilising the latest in recycled polyester and insulation technology to create one of the lightest insulation pieces out there. The Matanuska is a lightweight, hard-wearing jacket that uses another of our core design philosophies - natural advantage - the garment is weatherproofed by impregnating the polycotton with beeswax. Both these garments are perfectly suited to go over the two Merino wool layers; the Arcus, a lofted Merino hooded sweatshirt and the Coho, a superfine Merino sweatshirt. Both use the highest quality Merino offering a benchmark in natural performance, with their production coming under the only traceable sustainability program of its kind.
Staying focused has allowed us to excel at what we do - as our garments start to speak for themselves, our groundbreaking work has been recognised by others. This year we have been asked to present at a number of conferences and symposiums. Talking alongside companies such as Nike and M & S, on subjects ranging from Successful Biomimetics to Ecotextiles, for the four of us here and the people that support us, these are indeed exciting times.
