Amazing board, quality finish and absolutely flies in the smallest, weakest waves! The width, super low rocker and concave deck means it paddles like a dream and catches any ripple going. Best small wave board ever!”Adam, 30 Jul. Review is from Fourth Butterball. Translate.
We've put a lot of energy into making boards for average waves but this puppy really is the maximum possible board in the smallest possible package. Take your frustration out on summer junk with a board that'll get you as close to progressive shortboard surfing as small, gutless waves will ever allow. This one is guaranteed to make you smile.
The Butterball features the standard benefits of a board of it's type. Flatter rocker to create speed and flow over flat sections, tons of foam under the chest and into the rails for paddle power and the slightly more sculpted wide square tail to keep things loose and floaty with just enough control. What we've done to change things up a bit is put a concave in the deck. Don't be fooled this board measures up real thin (2 1/4 inches in 5'8") but that's just the effect of that concave down the stringer line, it won't feel thin under your arm. The benefit is once you're on your feet that massive float from the width and rail doesn't leave you with quite that corky feel you can suffer with on boards of this type. It also feels GREAT to paddle.
All in all a board for almost any ability surfer looking to get the job done when normally a long board might be the only option or when the waves are a bit larger but lacking in power. Obviously meant to be ridden short, but at the same time do consider indulging yourself a little, the whole point is to end up with more volume when you need it, not starve yourself just to go short.
We're riding the Butterball in the same sort of lengths we'd ride a more typical 'short and wide' shortboard. So perhaps 6" shorter than a 'standard' shortboard. You could definitely get away with a LOT less (up to a full foot shorter) but you might well be missing the point!

The five fins allow you to use the board as a thruster with the three M5 fins or as a quad using the side fins from the M5 set at the front and the smaller GX fins as the rear fins.
