Beautiful board. I'm somewhat of a beginner and have wanted to switch from my bigger and bulkier board to something a little more light and sporty but still be able to catch some waves. The transition hasn't been easy but I love this board and I can tell I'm gonna get some action with it.”

Overview

Only want one board in your rack? Boom. You're sorted.

The Concept

The Doofer is anything you want it to be. From mush to solid waves it is the ultimate all-rounder when you want to catch as many waves as possible and have a bunch of fun. We have tested this board in one foot Fistral all the way to 6ft Thurso and it really is a one board quiver! A great paddler, fast, easy to turn and holds a lovely line in the barrel. It's one of our favourite boards to take away when we can only get a couple of boards in the bag. Get yourself a Doofer if you want it all baby, a partner which will keep you smiling whatever the conditions.

The tech stuff and why we did it

The Doofer came about from the boys asking me if they could get a board that will be a bit of everything for when they travel. It is essentially a hybrid board. The outline is that of a stoker nose and a blue canvas tail pulled into a round pin. The wide point is pushed right up the board to increase the rail line which gives you the feel of a shortboard when you have your back foot on the tail pad, and the nose is nice and wide which is great for paddling into waves quickly. The rocker is fairly unique on the Doofer, it has a medium tail kick which is fairly curvy to the bottom of the rocker into a drawn out entry rocker; providing you with the best of both worlds when it comes to hold, pocket surfing and speed. The deck is packed full of volume and the rails are similar to that of the Blue Canvas. Due to the extra volume and the higher wide point you can ride the Doofer fairly short with out feeling under-gunned when the waves get a bit of size so the balance of using it in smaller waves and bigger waves really helps it to be a versatile board. The concave is that of a Charge from the tail to the wide point with a single running slightly deeper through the nose, helping it with paddling and lift in the water when you need to maintain your speed on the smaller waves but really gives it some hold when you are surfing off the tailpad in bigger waves. The balance of using it in smaller waves and bigger waves really helps it be a versatile board.

The stats

  • rail - medium
  • tail rocker - medium high
  • nose rocker - medium
  • concave - double to single with vee
  • tail - round pin
  • size - 1 to 4 inches shorter than your normal board
  • wave height - 1 to 6 foot

  • This board does exactly what I wanted it to do.. Normally I ride a 5'10, but I wanted something a little longer for the more solid days, to get me in a bit earlier and to feel a bit more solid under foot. That's just what I got! Already I love this board. I haven't ridden it as a thruster yet but the quad set-up is great! Super fast and skatey - just what I'm used to but with the benefit of catching more waves. Taken it out in thigh to head so far and it rides like a dream. taking it to morocco in a couple of weeks to hopefully get a real test on some real waves...

  • Good quality well finished board, I have a short fat board for tiny surf and this for everything else, works brilliantly in solid surf, sure footed and refined without being a matchstick.

  • Ordered a custom which took a long time to get to me, but it was worth the wait. I wanted an all rounder and this board is it. So far I have surfed it in small conditions and it surfer very well but I can't help but feel it is going to excel in the bigger stuff.
