Resin8 Surfboards

RESIN8 surfboards has set a new industry standard in surfboard construction. Testing and using the highest quality materials available and an intense measuring system we are able to very accurately duplicate proven shapes from an elite group of world class shapers with an unparalleled balance of performance, speed, optimal flex, strength and durability.

NO MOLDS - NO COMPUTERS. RESIN8 surfboards are hand shaped, glassed, sanded, and finished by a dedicated crew of 16 craftsmen all of whom have been with the project since we started in 2002. Resin8's unique construction process maximizes impact and tensile strength, while minimizing and accurately controlling final weight, and retaining a high tech flex previously unheard of in this type of durable modern construction.

Construction:
The hand shaped EPS foam core, a formula and density selected after years of testing 100's of foam options, is meticulously measured and replicated to the original shaper's specs to within minute tolerances (a few thousandths of an inch). The type of EPS foam we use is the absolute best combination of strength and flex we have found. This foam is extremely light and is wrapped with an ultra high grade epoxy resin and cloth and then a 1/8" layer of high strength PVC foam (another rigorously tested and selected formula contributing to superior strength and flex) on bottom, deck, and rails. The whole epoxy "sandwich" is then vacuum pressure bagged and heated at high temperatures to postcure it and lock in the rocker, bottom contours, and concaves, once again to the exact specs of the original shape. The process precludes air gaps and voids, ensuring a strong, impact resistant composite blank with optimal flex memory and high tensile (breaking) strength.

This preliminary "blank" already significantly exceeds the strength and flex of an average finished surfboard. Then we take it a step further and hand tune (re-shape) rail apexes, nose, tail, edges, and bottom contours to perfection and HAND GLASS it (again) with another, different high grade epoxy resin and cloth. Then it's hand sanded with the same attention to detail as with the best handmade polyurethane (p/u) or epoxy surfboards. The finished product is painted with a high quality automotive paint and clear coat and hand rubbed to a 1000 grit smooth finish for a feel that surpasses a high quality handmade board of this calibre. This finish is so UV resistant and durable, a simple clean with standard household cleaners or ethanol will return even an old board to an "almost new" finish again. Try that with a p/u board!

WADE TOKORO's and SAM EGAN's list of top WCT pros and World Champions over the last 10 years leaves no doubt as to their ability as shapers. RESIN8 is stoked to have two such respected craftsmen join our team and want to work with us to create the best surfboards available anywhere. This relationship is ongoing and mutually beneficial to all involved. As an example, several of the new Tokoro and Egan models currently in the Resin 8 line are personal magic boards designed for some of the top surfers in the world.

Currently many top pro riders are riding and testing RESIN8's and giving us great reviews and feedback. And here's one of the most crucial points we can claim: ALL of our pro riders are riding STOCK boards, not special different boards only made for them. That's right, anyone buying a RESIN8 off the rack at their local surf shop is getting the EXACT same quality as the pro riders get! Every board we make is hand crafted to these high standards, no exceptions.

So imagine getting a hand shaped, hand glassed, ultra strong, flexy, pro surfer-proven shape from a world class shaper like WADE TOKORO or SAM EGAN. A board that will snap off the top like the best p/u board you've ever had, and won't easily break when a thick lip nails it, or you miss the landing on that huge air you've been trying repeatedly. All this for a very reasonable price. And if you do lose it, sell it, or manage to destroy it somehow, you can go down to your local shop and pick up another one - THE SAME ONE. Same exact shape and flex pattern.
