AThis is the 2011 version
QHi,does it provide varying degrees of heat, and would it keep my back muscles nice and toastie? hopefully resulting in healthier relaxed muscles? What is the warmth time-i.e 2hrs or 4hrs of heat? Thanks.
AYes, there are 3 settings of heat, and you should get around 150mins of heat time from a 3 hour charge.

The item has only two heating settings as opposed to three that is stated sometimes (that is in the H Bomb Wetsuit) the heat provided is excellent and on the high setting, it gives a feeling of having hot sunshine on your back. Even without the heat on, the rash vest (if the correct size is worn) provides insulation as it gives a nice tight layer against the skin. The rash vest should fit comfortably under any comfortable fitting wetsuit as well. The only issue that I have had is that sometimes the zip can rub on the skin, so generally before fully zipping myself into my wetsuit, I check to make sure that the rash vest has not crumples or rolled up inside my wetsuit.
As a surf instructor, I have found the rash vest to be an exceptionally good purchase, and I find myself using the rash vest most days when i'm teaching as it just provides an extra bit of warmth. I find it particularly useful if I get flushed through, as on the high setting it will heat me up again pretty quickly.
I have found an additional use for the rash vest in helping to cure mild back pain that I suffer occasionally.
This is a good product and well worth the extra cost against the competition products if you are a regular surfer in the water.

Bought the Rip Curl heated vest with excitement over the very concept. The price is quite steep, especially against Quicksilver’s offering, so I expected good quality.
I’ve tried the vest out a couple of times now. The vest does it’s job in helping to keep you warm and lasts for a decent amount of time in the water. However, if you get flushed, expect that heat to disappear instantly. There are some criticisms against the product and Rip Curl though. Firstly the top of the zip has tended to rub a bit which can be a nuisance. Secondly is the battery charge time. This is supposed to be 3 hour but in fact takes 4 ½ hours. This is a factor if you want to use it twice in a day. Rip Curl’s response when I questioned this was initially that the stated charge time was ‘approximate’. They responded for a second time to say that ‘the battery charge time wasn’t guaranteed’. Therefore, take this into consideration when you buy, as well as the price against the competition (which I haven’t actually tried to properly compare).
