Created by the publishers of Surfgirl magazine (who also publish Carve) this really is in many way the best 'introduction to surfing' book we've got. It covers pretty much everything - buying a board, rules of the line up, forecasting, learning to surf, travel and a brief guide to the UK's beaches and loads more. The format is similar to a mag layout, with occasional adverts and loads of good photos. If you can get over the (in our opinion) slightly patronising few pages on body care and cosmetics it's a great guide to the sport.

girlfriend loves the book
A useful book for the basics - but more time spent on things like diet and yoga rather than the art of surfing itself than I would have liked. The healthy body bit seemed quite patronising.
The whole family liked this, even the grandpas
Some very good tips!! Now i don't feel so silly
too many ads, design all over the place - sorry!
I was buying it for my niece in Australia so it would have been good to have a review stating that it gave a guide to English beaches. I thought the first half of the book gave an excellent review of the basics of surfing.
few typos in the book but the info was excellent for a begginer, some good links into th surfing world too!

Good all round intro, covering technique, gear, forecasting, travel. Magazine format, lots of pics, easy to read.
