Magicseaweed DescriptionYou may well have had a chance to read the promotional material about the new flag ship Xcel Drylock Powerseam wetsuits but we've been lucky enough to see and feel the wetsuits in person and they do not disappoint. If you are looking for the warmest, most flexible winter wetsuit available this is an obvious choice, the stitchless Powerseams offer the double benefit of being more flexible and more water tight than a traditional blind stitched seam so when coupled with the rest of the Drylock features you can see how Xcel have raised the bar on their previous top end wetsuits with this model. The Powerseams are used on the major seams which require stretch, where no stretch is required like the wrist cuffs and the cross-over neck entry panels a standard blind stitch is used to ensure maximum strength. The Drylock range has always incorporated the latest features in wetsuit design, the Drylock zip is completely waterproof, meaning flushing is practically eliminated, the Drylock Wrist seals offer a tight but comfortable seal on the arm and a perfect match for the Drylock gloves wrist seal. Airprene chest and back panels offer better insulation than regular neoprene with air pockets in the internal layer locking in more warmth and allowing the thick layer of polypro lining on the inside of the wetsuit, which stretches all the way to the knees, to be even more effective at preserving your body heat. Quick Dry Fibre or QDF on the outside of the wetsuit means water runs off the outer layer of nylon rather than soaking in, resulting in a lighter, warmer wetsuit in the surf as well as giving you quicker drying times between sessions. The advantages of being warmer and more flexible in the surf can't be overstated, here in the UK dedicated surfers can take advantage of the best conditions throughout winter whilst feeling more like it's summer. Think back to the last time you went from wearing a shorty or summer wetsuit to a full winter wetsuit and imagine not feeling the same extra effort going into each paddle stroke, with Powerseam the restriction in movement is reduced by the flexible seams. The Powerseam wetsuit might not actually make you a better surfer but it gives you the freedom to keep pushing your surfing like you do in the summer in the harshest conditions. Choosing the right thickness for youThis is a 4/3 wetsuit, it has 4mm panels in the torso and legs and 3mm panels in the arms, this ensures you get the warmth in the core of the body and the flexibility to paddle in the arms. The best thickness of wetsuit for you depends mostly on where and what time of year you will be surfing, if you're based in the South West of the UK and want to surf year round a top end 4mm wetsuit is definitely an option to consider, combined with boots, gloves and a hood for the cold days many surfers use a 4mm wetsuit to get maximum flexibility during the coldest months. We have created a guide which goes into more depth about choosing the best thickness for you so if you've got any doubts take a look at the msw wetsuit thickness guide Choosing the right size for youGetting the right size wetsuit is critical, the wrong size will not keep you warm and could end up putting more stress on the seams, different brands use slightly different size charts so you may not be the same size across different makes of wetsuit, we suggest looking at the size chart page to judge which size will be the best fit for you. If you have any questions about the differences between wetsuits, the fit or the thickness that would be best for you give us a call on 01548 854660 or an e-mail on store@magicseaweed.com where we're happy to help.
