Brilliant suit! Dry and toasty. The getting in and out part is all the warmup you need but small price to pay for the arid climate in between.”Carl Lannerstad, 12 Nov. Review is from Xcel Mens 5mm Drylock Hooded (Black). Translate.
The Drylock from Xcel combines all the top features from the other wetsuits and adds stitchless seams and a waterproof zip.
The permanently attached hood makes sure even less water gets into the wetsuit through the neck and gives you a big boost in warmth, especially when the winds blowing.
You can slide the hood down around your neck if you're too hot but it cannot be removed from the wetsuit, if you surf in the coldest environments and the wind is often cold and strong, a hooded wetsuit offers a big advantage over a separate hood.
Fusionweld is the new name for the Powerseam stitchless seam, this season it's more flexible than ever with the thin bead of seal on the outside, glue between the panels of neoprene and stretchy tape on the inside of the seam.
Not having any stitching gives you a stretchier, more durable seam with less chance of leaks, it's the best of all worlds and helps the Drylock be the best combination of flexibility and warmth in the whole range.
features that are carried over from previous seasons include the popular wrist seals, insulating air chamber neoprene in the chest and back panels and the fully waterproof zip, it also incorporates all new lighter neoprene and quick drying fluffy lining.
Xcel have given the new combination of lighter foam, fluffy lining and quick dry fabric on the outside the title of TD3.
The new lighter foam has more air blown into it so it's not only lighter but warmer as well.
The new fluffy lining on the inside of the chest and back panels has grooves in it which helps the water run off so it dries more quickly, the lining on the outside of the wetsuit makes water run off before it soaks in.
It has the regular fluffy lining down to the knees and uses Xcels stretchy tape for sealing on this inside of the seams, this will increase the lifespan of the suit and keep you warmer.
This is a 5/4/3 wetsuit, it has 5mm panels in the torso and legs and 4mm panels in the arms and 3mm panels under the arms, this ensures you get the warmth in the core of the body and the flexibility to paddle in the arms.
The best thickness of wetsuit for you depends mostly on where and what time of year you will be surfing, 5mm is the most popular thickness for year round surfing in the UK.
We have created a guide which goes into more depth about choosing the best thickness for you so if you've got any doubts take a look at the msw wetsuit thickness guide
Getting the right size wetsuit is critical, the wrong size will not keep you warm and could end up putting more stress on the seams, different brands use slightly different size charts so you may not be the same size across different makes of wetsuit, we suggest looking at the size chart page to judge which size will be the best fit for you.
If you have any questions about the differences between wetsuits, the fit or the thickness that would be best for you give us a call on 01548 854660 or an e-mail on firstname.lastname@example.org where we're happy to help.
We've worn our hooded suits with the hood pulled down pretty often and never had an issue with flushing, it's not as comfortable as a non hooded wetsuit but it's not going to be any more likely to flush through.

Ordered my usual size MT (third Xcel 5 mm hooded drylock) but size this time was somewhat smaller!? Especially around the ankles. Very hard to put on. Tried it in 3 C water and 4 C air, no problem! Really warm!Kenneth Marklund Fugu Sports, 12 Nov 13. Review is from Xcel Mens 5mm Drylock Hooded (Black).

Fit was an issue. M did not fit although my 3/2M does fit (may be stretchier though) Replacement ML fits reasonably and is warm, but it's not cold yet.simon millett, 14 Nov 12. Review is from Xcel Mens 5mm Drylock Powerseam 2013.

Class wetsuit. Sizing was perfect. Paddling is so much easier than my old wetsuit, the flexibility around the shoulders really helps. Has a key hold which is handy. Nice and warm, even in January.Rob, 13 Feb 13. Review is from Xcel Mens 5mm Drylock Powerseam 2013.
